Septuagesima70 — Week Nine

We have now entered the third and final period of our Lenten journey: Passiontide. From this day, Holy Mother Church veils her crucifixes and statues, and fixes her gaze unwaveringly upon the Passion of Our Lord. It is the most demanding stretch of our Septuagesima70 programme, and we embrace it with glad hearts.

These final weeks call us to intensify our penances — in fasting, in prayer, in the mortification of our appetites. Yet let us remember well: the purpose of all we do is love of God and of neighbour. Should any of these extra penances prove too much, please do not hesitate to reach out for a dispensation. A penance that breaks us serves no one; a penance offered in love builds the soul.

For love of Our Blessed Lord in His Passion, let us embark on this final stretch with great alacrity — and enjoy the veggies!
