On March 25th, Holy Mother Church celebrates one of her most beloved feasts: Lady Day, the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary — the very moment the Word was made flesh in her most pure womb.

As a First Class Feast, it brings with it a most welcome relief: from Vespers this evening — at sundown tonight — all our Lenten penances are lifted for the duration of the feast, save one.

Let this be a foretaste of the Easter joy that awaits us at the end of our Passiontide journey.

Raise a glass, set aside the vegetables for a day, and rejoice with Our Lady on this most glorious of her feasts.
